PORTLAND, Oregon – Gas prices are dropping or holding steady across the nation. Since this is the time when gas normally begins to climb as factory maintenance season approaches, AAA Motor Club Public Affairs Director Marie Dodds said low demand and an unusually low price for crude oil are holding them down.
“This is the time of year that we often start to see gas prices inch up,” Dodds acknowledged. “However, we have crude oil prices at their cheapest levels in a year because of market concerns about the corona virus.”
Tourism Economics estimates the U.S. could lose an estimated 1.6 million visits from China as a result of the corona virus.
“The bottom line is, we’re seeing a reduction in travel and that is putting downward pressure on crude oil prices,” Dodds said.
