PENDLETON, Oregon – There are currently more than 50 full-time jobs available at the Pendleton UAS Test Range. Eastern Oregon Regional Airport Manager Steve Chrisman said that this month the range will welcome two new tenants and is watching another expand its operations.
Blue Mountain Community College is working on offerings to help those interested gain experience in the field.
“If you want to work in the UAS industry today, you’re coming out of the military more often than not, or you know someone on the inside,” Chrisman said.
PAE ISR recently sold off its drone operations and vacated the large hangar at the airport, but the company that purchased the assets is moving in. American Aerospace Technologies moves in this month. The range is also welcoming Yates Electrospace Corporation of California as a new tenant.
In addition, Chrisman said one of the biggest defense contractors in the world, Cubic ISR, is expanding its operations.
“This is their first foray into flying UAS,” he said. “They’ve got an incredible vehicle.”
