HERMISTON, Oregon – Voters approved a construction bond in November that includes building a new elementary school and totally replacing another one. School Superintendent Tricia Mooney said that people keep asking when construction will start.
“If I had a dime for every time I was asked that question, then we wouldn’t have had to pass a bond,” she said with a smile. “There are all these hoops that you have to jump through before the really exciting part start with breaking ground.”
One hoop has been cleared. Recently the school board approved hiring Wenaha Group to serve as project manager. Now the district has issued a request for design proposals to architects. Mooney said they expect to have one on board by early February.
“Once we get that piece in place, then the ball really starts moving with design,” she said. “It starts to feel kind of like something’s going to happen.”
