Oregon man indicted for severely beaten hotel owner

James Lamb (Deschutes Co. Jail)

REDMOND, Oregon – A Deschutes County grand jury has indicted a Eugene man for a New Year’s Eve attack on the owner of the Hub Hotel in Redmond.

District Attorney John Hummel said Meena Puri, 70, was severely beaten.

James Lamb, 53, is accused of breaking down the office door and attacking Puri, who is an immigrant from India, because of her race.  Police said Lamb repeatedly told the victim he wanted to rid America of people like her.  Lamb is charged with attempted murder and a hate crime.
