Medicare open enrollment ends soon

SALEM, Oregon – Oregonians have until Saturday to enroll in Medicare.

Medicare is the federal health insurance program for people 65 and older, or with Social Security disability income if they are younger than 65.

“The SHIBA program is helping as many Medicare beneficiaries as we can through Friday close of business,” said SHIBA spokeswoman Lisa Emerson.

SHIBA stands for Oregon Senior Health Insurance Benefits Assistance.  Emerson said you can find out more on the web.

“The federal website — has a plan comparison tool to compare plans,” Emerson said.

Emerson said you should never share your Medicare number unless you have given the person asking for it permission in advance.
