Oregon Legislature to consider limits on campaign contributions

SALEM, Oregon — Limiting campaign contributions is one of the big issues Oregon’s Legislature will take up during the 2020 session.

Senator Jeff Golden (D-Ashland) said a bill his committee will propose would limit how much money an individual could give to support a candidate for the legislature.

“The limit of a donation to small donor committee in this proposal is $200 per election,” Golden said.  “For state legislative races, $750 per election or if they can or were successful in the primary, that limit would effectively be $1,500 for a whole election cycle.”

That proposed limit is $2,000 for statewide offices like governor, secretary of state or attorney general.

Oregon is one of five states with no limits on campaign contributions.
