The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning for the Grande Ronde Valley including the cities of Cove, Elgin and La Grande. It will be in effect until 9 p.m. tonight. Unsafe driving conditions will also exist outside of the blizzard warning area throughout Eastern Oregon and Eastern Washington and along the Columbia River Gorge.
Additional snow accumulations of up to an inch with winds gusting as high as 50 miles per hour for areas south of La Grande are forecast. Slippery road conditions will couple with reduced visibility. In addition, gusty winds could make it difficult for vehicles to stay in their lanes of travel.
People are urged to stay home if possible and carry a winter survival kit if they must hit the roads. If stranded, motorists are urged to stay with their vehicles.
