WALLA WALLA, Washington – The Walla Walla Police Department is investigating a collision between a vehicle and bicyclist.

The accident happened Tuesday afternoon at S. 2nd Avenue and Poplar Street.

According to WWPD Public Information Officer Sergeant Eric Knudson, a 45 year old woman was riding a bicycle northbound on the west sidewalk of S. Second Avenue.

A man driving a truck eastbound on Poplar Street approached a red light and stopped.  Knudson said the man believed it was clear and then made a right turn, after stopping for the red light, onto S. 2nd Avenue striking the bicyclist as she rode across the marked sidewalk.

The female bicyclist was transported to Providence St. Mary Medical Center with serious injuries.

Knudson said collision investigators responded to the scene and that the investigation continues.
