WALLA WALLA, Washington – As the Walla Walla County Elections Department prepares for the August 6 primary election, one issue expected to go before voters was missing from the online voter guide and the ballots – the city of College Place’s annexation into the county rural library district.

My Columbia Basin noticed the error and alerted both the county election’s department, College Place Mayor Harvey Crowder and College Place City Administrator Mike Rizzitiello.

“We didn’t receive a resolution to put it on the primary ballot,” Elections Supervisor David Valiant said. “My understanding is that they want to put it on in November. A resolution for that election is due in our office by August 6.” However, Rizzitiello said he learned there was a mix-up at the Elections Department and thanked My Columbia Basin for pointing out the error.

“Just got a call back from Elections office. It sounds like they were able to stop the College Place ballots right before they printed them. They are reprogramming them to include the library question and they will go out tomorrow,” Rizzitiello said.

Valiant said the online voter guide will be updated too.

The department will begin processing ballots on Monday, and preliminary results will not being released until after 8 p.m. on election day.
