WALLA WALLA, Washington – A construction equipment operator was transported to Providence St. Mary Medical Center Monday afternoon after rolling a forklift into Mill Creek. His identity and condition has not been released.
Walla Walla Fire Department Captain Todd Stubblefield said the man was operating the forklift in the Mill Creek flood control channel just east of the S. Park St. Bridge when he may have caught one of its tires and rolled the equipment at about 2:30 p.m.
Stubblefield said the forklift did not appear to be leaking any fuel or oil into Mill Creek, but that the necessary agencies were notified and on-scene assessing the situation.
Firefighters at the scene told KTEL News that the operator was quickly extricated and taken to the hospital. He was talking to them when he was removed from the machine.
The forklift was hired by the Tri-State Steelheaders Association which is working to modify the bottom of that section of channel to make it more habitable to fish.
