MISSION, Oregon – The Umatilla Tribal Police Department has been informed by the Oregon State Medical Examiner’s Office that the single bone found by Umatilla County Search and Rescue volunteers in the area that skeletal remains were found earlier is “non-human unidentified.”

A news release issued last month from the Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office stated that the bone was “thought to be from a human,” according to a news release from the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation.

Tribal police continue to investigate the skeletal remains found at the site, which is within the exterior boundaries of the Umatilla Indian Reservation.

“There is no new information regarding the earlier discovery at this time,” the release states.
