PENDLETON, Oregon – The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning for eastern Oregon and Washington on Thursday from noon to 10 p.m. Forecasters say a breakdown of the upper level ridge over the area will lead to increasing instability this evening over southern Oregon and move into the area tomorrow.
Thunderstorms with frequent lightning are expected and winds will increase in the east. Those winds combined with low humidity will lead to red flag conditions. Winds are expected to be westerly, increasing to 15-25 miles per hour. Humidity will be 15-20 percent and temperatures will be warm.
Any fires that develop due to the conditions will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.
