WALLA WALLA, Washington – Time is running out for applications to be turned in for entry-level police officers. The Walla Walla Police Department is accepting applications until 5 p.m. Friday in order to establish an eligibility list for future openings.
Applications and testing procedures are available at www.wallawallawa.gov or at the human resources office at City Hall, 15 N. Third Ave.
Currently, the police department is down five officers, mainly due to recent retirements.
Capt. Kevin Braman said when you’re short-staffed, it makes scheduling a bit of a challenge.
“On the patrol side of things, you know the patrol guys are the ones that respond when you call 911,” he said. “So we have to have minimum response shifts. We’re trying our best to continue with that.”
Braman added WWPD has made some in-house movements as far as detectives and special teams are concerned.
“A couple of them have not been backfilled,” he said. “We had two that promoted out of there. So those haven’t been backfilled at this point in time. We hope to hire and train some new officers, get staffed up and move those guys back into those positions.”
