One killed in single-vehicle crash

Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash reported this morning at approximately 2:39 a.m. on Wildhorse Rd between mileposts 3 and 4.  Umatilla Tribal Police Department and Umatilla Tribal Fire Department initially responded and located the crash.  A red 1997 Ford Thunderbird had left the roadway, went over an embankment, and struck a tree. Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office responded as well as Oregon State Police to document the scene. The crash is located near the border of the Umatilla Indian Reservation and was initially believed to be Umatilla Tribal PD jurisdiction. It was later determined to be Umatilla County Sheriff’s jurisdiction and the investigation was turned over to our agency.  There were three occupants in the vehicle including the driver, 18 year old male Logan Foster of Weston, a 15 year old female and a 16 year old male.  The 16 year old male was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced deceased on the scene.  The 15 year old female was transported by ambulance to a LifeFlight landing zone.  The 18 year old driver, Logan Foster, was transported by ground ambulance to an area hospital. Investigation is ongoing at this time.

UPDATE: The following is a news release from the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation:

Mission, OR – On Tuesday, June 11 at approximately 2:39 a.m. the Umatilla Tribal Police Department received a call from Umatilla County Dispatch regarding a fatal car crash in a rural area of Umatilla County. Umatilla Tribal Police and the Umatilla Tribal Fire Department responded and located the scene on Wildhorse Road near Indian Grade Road. Officers began initial steps of investigation and determined that the crash scene was out of the exterior
boundaries of the Umatilla Indian Reservation and all three occupants in the crash were Non-Indians. The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office and the Oregon State Police also responded to the call. Oregon State Police conducted a crash reconstruction analysis. Umatilla Tribal Police officers completed their initial investigation and turned the case over to the jurisdiction of the Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office and the Umatilla County District Attorney’s Office.

UMATILLA COUNTY, Oregon – A single-vehicle crash on Wildhorse Road between mileposts 3 and 4 claimed the life of one of the three people in the vehicle. East Umatilla County Rural Fire Protection District and East Umatilla County Area Ambulance Health District responded to the call early this morning (Tuesday) at the request of the Umatilla Tribal Fire Department.

Emergency responders found a single vehicle over an open embankment.

“Three people were in the vehicle at the time of the accident,” fire district officials reported in a news release. “Two patients were out of the vehicle upon our arrival.”

The two were taken by Tribal Fire responders by ambulance to a landing zone for a LifeFlight ride to an area hospital for one of the injured. The second person was transported by ground ambulance. The third person in the vehicle was pronounced deceased on the scene.

Agencies on the scene also included the Umatilla Tribal Police Department, Oregon State Police, and the Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office.
