WALLA WALLA, Washington – Walla Walla Public Schools has named the two finalists for the principal position at Edison Elementary School. Both are from Oregon school districts. Parents and staff can meet both candidates Thursday from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the school library at Edison Elementary School.
JP Richards currently serves as the director of human resources for the Three Rivers School District in Grants Pass. Prior to that he was in Tillamook, where he began as director of English language development before being promoted to elementary principal. Before his tenure in Tillamook, Richards was a vice principal, and then principal of Ponderosa Junior High School in Klamath Falls. Before moving over to administration, he spent eight years as a Spanish teacher at the secondary level in addition to supervising migrant/English language learner summer school for elementary students.
Jason Olson began his career in education as a middle school Spanish teacher, spending six years teaching Spanish at Valor Middle School in Woodburn. He later served as student services specialist at the middle school for two years and was then promoted to assistant principal, where he served for four years. Olson then worked as an elementary principal at a dual language school in Hillsboro before moving to the West Linn and Wilsonville area, where he has since served in various elementary and middle school teaching and coordinator roles.
Both Richards and Olson are bilingual, which WWPS said is a required qualification for the position.
Edison Principal Julie Perron has accepted the WWPS director of bilingual education position. Her last day as principal is June 30. The new principal will report July 1.
