Walden hosts town hall

U.S. Rep. Greg Walden

HERMISTON, Oregon – U.S. Rep. Greg Walden (R-Hood River) is back in his home district today. He will be hosting a town hall at the Eastern Oregon Trade and Event Center on East Airport Road at 4 p.m. It’s his twelfth town hall this year, and he says that what people want to talk about hasn’t changed that much over the years.

“You still have the underlying issues of, if you’re in a forested area, the fires – wildfires, smoke, all of those things,” he said. “There are also other localized issues like transportation.”

As for national issues, Walden says people at town halls want to discuss border security and funding for programs that are important to this area. There’s a new issue he wants input on, the Green New Deal, being pushed by Democrats. At a news conference this week, Walden and other Republican leaders called for hearings on the plan, which he says is a threat to the economy.

“The truth is, house Democrats – the leaders – know exactly who has won the debate inside their party,” Walden said. “That debate, I think, is pretty much over. The socialist left, led be Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Bernie Sanders – they’ve won.”
