HERMISTON, Oregon – Emerson A. Espinoza Alvarenga, 20, was arrested Tuesday by the Hermiston Police Department. Chief Jason Edmiston says his detectives began an investigation into the complaint in mid-November. That investigation included interviews with both the victim and the suspect. The results of that probe were turned over to the Umatilla County District Attorney’s Office at the end of December.
“On March 8, a warrant was issued for the arrest of Mr. Espinoza for two counts of sodomy in the first degree,” Edmiston said.
Detectives tracked down the suspect four days later. Edmiston said the victim was “very young, but able to communicate.”
“Due to the age of the victim, we utilized outside resources to help with interviews to try to ascertain exactly what transpired, what took place,” Edmiston said.
He said the suspect is known to the victim. The Hermiston Police Department records indicate that Espinoza Alvarenga does not have a criminal history with them.
An Immigration and Naturalization Service detainer has been placed on Espinoza Alvarenga. His bail upon his arrest was set at $150,000.
Editor’s note: this story was updated to reflect that the investigation began in November, not June.
