Local McDonald’s employees gain language skills

The Pendleton graduates of English Under the Arches

PENDLETON, Oregon – Several members of the crew at McDonald’s in Pendleton were celebrated Tuesday for their graduation from the corporation’s English Under the Arches program. Mayor John Turner joined Owner/Operator Beau Willadsen for the ceremony at the Red Lion Hotel.

English Under the Arches is a program that teaches employees the English they need to communicate effectively and confidently with both staff and customers. EUA provides a series of courses to meet the needs of workers with varying proficiency levels in English. Courses are designed to allow employees to progress as they gain speaking, listening, reading and writing skills.

The retention rate of EUA students after one year is 88 percent, and 78 percent after three years.
