PENDLETON, Oregon – The Umatilla County District Attorney’s Office is charging Levi Daniel Reed, 34, with three felonies stemming from the burglary of Western States Equipment last week. Although he was jailed on Feb. 15, he was being held on a parole violation before the new charges were brought.
The transient is now alleged to have committed second-degree burglary, first-degree theft, and unauthorized use of a vehicle. Police Chief Stuart Roberts says he’s had his fill of the frequent offender.
“Reed is obviously somebody who just can’t find any other means to support himself other than stealing other people’s properties, which is absolutely ridiculous,” Roberts said. “It’s my sincere hope that the system will hold him accountable this time.”
Roberts said it gets old, repeatedly arresting people for the same offenses.
“The frustration is, here’s an offender who was in jail, released from jail, and went directly from his release up the hill, committed burglary and stole the pickup,” Roberts said.
Reed had been taken into custody for allegedly burglarizing Happy Canyon and Bare Bones Mini Market last month. A second suspect in the Western States Equipment burglary, Steven Ressler, 44, of Pendleton has not yet had charges filed against him according to the Umatilla County Jail roster. He’s being held on a felony failure to appear warrant.
