COLLEGE PLACE, Washington – The College Place Police Department is warning residents that a fundraising letter being circulated throughout the city is actually a scam.
The letter solicits funds for the annual College Place Area Fund Drive through the National Police Association and includes deceptive wording regarding the potential victim’s other contributions to charities that benefit law enforcement and asks for a check or money order to an address in Topeka, Kansas.
The CPPD warns the funds are going out of state and not to a legitimate location or person. The letter is being left on doorsteps throughout College Place and being distributed by email and mail handled by the U.S. Postal Service.
The CPPD has declared the letter to be a scam and has made contact with the source as part of its continuing investigation.
