Fire causes evacuation, destruction near Vantage

VANTAGE, Washington — The town of Vantage has been lowered to a Level 2 evacuation notice, which will allow residents to return home. Residents are advised to continue to monitor the situation and still be prepared to leave at a moment’s notice should fire conditions change.

I-90 is now open in both directions. Vantage Highway has also been reopened in both directions. Huntzinger Road will remain closed south of I-90.

The fire has reportedly burned around 2,000 acres.


VANTAGE, Washington — The city of Vantage has been evacuated after a fast-moving fire ignited overnight. The Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office says that of right now it’s burned more than 1,000 acres over a 4.5 mile radius. The Ryegrass Coulee Fire has closed down I-90, though officials say it will reopen around noon today.

Vantage residents have been evacuated by the Red Cross to George, WA.

Over 400 guardrails have been burned on I-90, and at least one structure has been destroyed.
