PENDLETON, Oregon – Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office detectives continue to investigate two robberies on opposite ends of the county over the weekend that are linked to firearms. Sheriff Terry Rowan says that at the TAJ Market in Milton-Freewater, the suspects who stole some beer didn’t actually point a gun until an employee was chasing the suspects’ car.

“If they were caught just stealing the beer, it would be a low-level misdemeanor Theft 3 case, but because they brandished a weapon, they upped the ante considerably,” Rowan said.

Because of that, the two now face felony Measure 11 charges.

In the second robbery, surveillance video also captured the image of a man robbing the Comfort Suites near Hermiston at gunpoint.

“The individual walks in, brandishes a firearm and is able to get out of there with not a lot of cash, but some cash,” Rowan said. “We’re trying to circulate photographs and see if we can identify that individual.”

The sheriff’s office has been circulating the images from both incidents on social media and they can be found on My Columbia Basin’s Facebook page. Two of them are shown here. Rowan urges that if people suspect they know the identities they call the office instead of commenting about it on social media.
