Garcia tabbed for M-F council vacancy

MILTON-FREEWATER, Oregon — Jose Garcia was introduced Monday night to Milton-Freewater residents as the applicant for the Ward Three position that’s currently vacant on the Milton-Freewater City Council.

After Garcia met with council members and residents Monday, things moved along quickly and City Manager Linda Hall says it was decided that he would be sworn in on July 9 at the next regular meeting.

“We are thrilled to have Jose on our council and look forward to his contributions and insight,” City Manager Linda Hall wrote in an email to My Columbia Basin.

Garcia is well known around the region for his work as a soccer coach. He has lived in Milton-Freewater for more than 40 years. Garcia will be the first Hispanic/Latino council member for the city.

The Ward Three position was left vacant by veteran council member Jeff Anliker who resigned earlier this year because of health concerns.
