SALEM, Oregon — Republican candidate for governor in Oregon Knute Buehler is critical of Gov. Kate Brown’s response to the audit of the Oregon foster care system.
The audit shows major problems caring for children and retaining foster care workers, and that children are being put at risk. Buehler says immediate action needs to be taken by this session of the legislature.
He wants the legislature to spend $50 million to create a rapid response team to implement the recommendations in the audit. That team would implement the 24 recommendations from from the audit.
Buehler was critical of Brown for not responding publicly to the audit and not taking enough action to solve the problems. Last year, the governor took action and replaced the head of the Department of Human Services and the head of the Foster Care Program.
