PENDLETON, Oregon – The derelict Rodeo City Inn at Barnhart Road and Interstate 84 is bringing complaints from citizens. The Umatilla County Board of Commissioners heard those complaints at their last meeting, and Wednesday they heard from the owner. Chairman Larry Givens says it appears the motel will reopen.
“We understand he has a franchise for a company to re-purpose that building,” Givens said after the board meeting. “They won’t change the desired use for it, but they’ll be cleaning it up and improving it.”
Givens says the owner did not give a time frame to when he hopes to reopen. Meanwhile, he said the county wants to have more control over neglected structures in the future.
“We’ve asked our county counsel to come up with an ordinance that gives the county the authority to take action when those types of occurrences should happen,” Givens said.
The Rodeo City Inn was shut down as a nuisance property in 2014 by the Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office.
Also at the commissioners’ meeting, the three approved a balanced budget for the coming year.
